Funding Gifted Education

Gifted education is in immediate danger of losing state funding. That will have a direct impact on gifted services and programs in CCISD. Cuts in state education funding translate into cuts in CCISD GT services and programs. Check out Dr. Laura Mackay's PowerPoint presentation from our April 19 CASE meeting to see what you can do. The most important thing you can do as a parent of a gifted student is to write your state legislators! A brief note is best (good news for us time-pressed parents!).

Summer Learning Opportunities

It is not too soon to start thinking about summer fun and learning opportunities. CASE for Gifted Children along with Clear Creek I.S.D. maintains the following list:

The above list is a detailed description of programs from summer 2010. An updated list with website and contact information is listed below:

Parenting Successful GT Children, Dr. James Webb

CASE donates $2860 to the CCISD GT Department!

Thanks to all the 2009-2010 CASE members who enabled CASE to make a $2860 contribution to the CCISD Gifted & Talented Department. This donation provided:

  • $1000 for GT teachers to attend the TAGT Conference in Houston last year
  • $1000 to help send a WAVE teacher to Confratute, a gifted education conference in Connecticut
  • $860 to purchase educational games for each elementary GT classroom

What is CASE?

CASE© was formed by a group of parents who met at a Texas Association for Gifted and Talented (TAGT) conference held in Houston back in the summer of 1994. The members shared a common vision... to provide parents and supporters of gifted education within the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) with an organized support group that would work with the educators and administration at the local and state levels to create a better understanding by all of the academic, social, and emotional needs of the gifted and to support the development of programs and educational opportunities within the district.

Our service includes:

  • Providing numerous programs and guest speakers from the district, region and state levels who have shared their knowledge and expertise in meeting the educational, social, and emotional needs of the gifted.
  • Helping to support the Webster Academy Visions in Education (WAVE) Program at Westbrook Intermediate School.
  • Serving on the District Educational Improvement Council, various Campus Instructional Improvement Councils, the GT Advisory Council and other district level committees and subgroups to ensure that the needs of all students are met.
  • Appearing before the Board of Trustees on behalf of gifted children - our most recent issues addressed include the relocation of the WAVE Magnet Program, transportation continuance for WAVE and Seabrook Science Magnet, and the WAVE lottery and entrance requirements.
  • Providing a network for parents to share valuable insights and experiences with others who share the role in raising gifted children.
  • Sharing learning and support through our affiliate with the Texas Association for Gifted and Talented (TAGT).
  • Providing educator scholarships to CCISD to keep our teachers on the cutting edge of gifted education. C.A.S.E. presented CCISD with 18 educator scholarships to the TAGT Annual Conference and Conference by the Sea in the last 2 years.
